WHAT TO BRING EACH WEEK

  1. Your chosen fabric
  2. Your sewing machine with it’s manual & its power cord! -  this is especially important to remember if we are doing button holes or zips
  3. Good quality glass headed pins
  4. Sharp scissors, large and small and unpicker!
  5. Machine thread
  6. Hand sewing needles & spare machine needles
  7. Pencil and fabric marker
  8. Rotary cutter, long ruler & cutting mat if you have them!

USEFUL TIPS

FABRIC - It is probably worthwhile mentioning that like all things - you get what you pay for. Better quality fabric is easier to work with & the end results always reward the extra expense. Be mindful of fabrics that have a regular pattern such as checks & stripes as your cutting has to be really accurate - nothing worse than a wonky stripe! Directional fabric has it’s own perils too!. If you are choosing anything with an obvious pattern such as birds or animals that have a right way up, we recommend you buy more than the specified size.

EQUIPMENT - We will teach you how to use a rotary cutter, ruler & cutting mat for accurate cutting. We strongly recommend purchasing these items as you will learn to love how efficient they are & class will move much quicker if you have your own. We do however, have a couple of sets for use in class. As before, ‘cheap’ does not equal ‘good’ - invest in good quality glass headed pins & scissors . . . it will save you heaps in the long run. The generic brands of machine thread have a tendancy to break so stick with trusted brands such as Gutterman, Rasant & Mettler.

BE PREPARED - Come to class with a couple of full bobbins - saves lots of time & avoids having to rethread your machine. ALWAYS bring your manual - it is quicker if we can read how to set the machine up for a specific task rather then try to work it out. Help for most machines can be found online if your manual has taken a walk!

A NOTE ABOUR CLASS

If you are unable to make a class then don’t worry, the pattern for the night that you miss will still be yours to keep. We will simply let you have it at the next class you attend or will mail it out to you. We are really sorry but there are no refunds if you miss a class. We would be grateful if you could email us to let us know if you are unable to attend a class . . . just so we don’t worry!

We have minimum numbers to run a class & unfortunately if we don’t reach those numbers 7 days before class then we will have to reschedule the class for a later date.

A FINAL NOTE

We really look forward to you joining us & hope that you will pick up some skills to keep you sewing for a long time. If you have any queries regarding the classes or fabrics then we are more then happy to help.
