Lots of fabric strips at 5cm / 2" wide, preferable at full width of 110cm as it avoids making lots of joins! Shorter lengths are ok if you are bringing along fabric scraps.

Cheap headed pins - these will all get thrown away at the end so really cheap pins are OK!
2 large safety pins
an large plastic placemat is very useful
needle cotton can be used to sew the rug instead of glueing!
